10 officers instead of 72, shortage of staff in Special Security Cadre; Big revelation regarding Parliament security lapse…

The investigation into the lapse in security of the Lok Sabha on December 13 is ongoing. Eight Delhi Police personnel have been suspended regarding this.

Besides, Parliament Security Service (PSS) is also being reviewed. This special cadre keeps an eye on the comings and goings inside the Parliament.

Apart from this, he also has the responsibility of coordination regarding the security of VVIP people of Parliament.

According to the Times of India report, PSS is currently short of staff. The technology they have regarding security is also outdated.

It was reported in the report that the actual number of team of people approved for PSS is much less than that.

Due to this, minimum staff is deployed at the entry level security posts which check the people, vehicles and goods coming to the Parliament.

This is the first filter level from security point of view. The report said that there should be 72 Security Assistant Grade II officers for the Lok Sabha, but the current number is only 10. There is a sanctioned strength of 99 Security Assistant Grade II (Tech) for entry level technical staff, but this number is only 39.

Staff of 24 instead of 69
In the Lok Sabha, Second Ring of Security personnel are deployed at the Parliament House Gate. For this, a total staff of 69 personnel is sanctioned but at present it is only 24.

What’s more, the post of Joint Secretary (Security) is vacant since the beginning of this year, under which PSS works for the security of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

A day after the incident of security lapse, the Central Government took steps regarding this and a letter was sent to all the states for nomination for this post. Questions also arose regarding why such an important post was left vacant.
