114 e-rickshaws running illegally in Delhi seized, destroyed using JCB

New Delhi. The Transport Department has seized 114 e-rickshaws while cracking down on illegal e-rickshaw drivers plying on the roads of Delhi. After receiving continuous complaints, the department seized the illegal e-rickshaws and destroyed them with the help of JCB.
The Transport Department has focused its entire attention on illegal e-rickshaws. There are around 1.6 lakh e-rickshaws running in Delhi, out of which a large number are illegal e-rickshaws which have neither license nor permit. These e-rickshaws run dangerously on the roads of Delhi, risking people’s lives. Also, there were complaints of e-rickshaw drivers completely occupying the roads. These illegal e-rickshaws also openly steal electricity on the roads. Due to which the electricity companies are incurring a loss of around Rs 120 crore and this loss is recovered from the people of Delhi.
It takes 8 to 10 units of electricity to charge an e-rickshaw, but these rickshaw mafias charge the rickshaws by stealing electricity from electricity poles, due to which many accidents happened in Delhi recently and a one-year-old child and a 40-year-old man died due to electric shock in the e-rickshaw.
