12 Bangladeshis arrested for illegally entering Tripura, including a child

Agartala. Illegal infiltration continues due to lawlessness and violence in Bangladesh. According to officials, the Border Security Force (BSF) has arrested 12 Bangladeshi nationals and a child who were illegally entering India in Tripura. BSF spokesperson said that a mobile check post was set up near Agartala railway station, where nine Bangladeshi nationals were detained.

Bangladeshi citizens interrogated
The arrested Bangladeshi nationals told during interrogation that they were planning to go to Kolkata to settle permanently in India. In another operation, BSF troops from Belonia in South Tripura detained four women and two children on the banks of Muhuri river. Of these, three women and a child are Bangladeshi, while one woman and a child are Indian. It was also reported that the detained people knew each other. In the last three and a half months, the Government Railway Police, BSF and Tripura Police have arrested around 435 Bangladeshi nationals and over 55 Rohingyas from Agartala Railway Station and several places in Tripura after they entered India illegally.

Operations intensified in India-Bangladesh border and state
BSF spokesperson said that operations have been intensified along the India-Bangladesh border and in the state to prevent illegal infiltration and cross-border crimes. On October 24, the BSF had also arrested two Indian brokers for illegally allowing Bangladeshi nationals to enter India. Following the unrest in Bangladesh, security has been beefed up along the 856-km-long India-Bangladesh border with Tripura. Rohingyas have also entered India illegally after fleeing their camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, where more than 1 million displaced Rohingyas from Myanmar have been living since 2017. According to security officials, Bangladeshi citizens and Rohingyas have said that they have entered India illegally in search of jobs and shelter.
