Unidentified miscreants have fired 14 rounds at the house of the son of a prominent Hindu temple head in Surrey, Canada.
Let us tell you that Surrey is considered to be the base of Khalistani extremists. Terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar was killed near a Gurudwara in this city.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had accused the Indian government of murder. However, no evidence has been presented by them till date.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:03 a.m. on December 27, 2023, in the 14900 block of 80 Avenue. According to a statement from the Surrey Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the residence at which the shots were fired belongs to the elder son of Satish Kumar, president of the Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Surrey.
His son’s house was attacked and at least 14 rounds were fired.
No one was injured in the firing, but the house was damaged by the bullet. Police remained at the scene for several hours, examining evidence, speaking to witnesses and combing the neighborhood for possible CCTV footage.
The Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit has taken over the investigation and officers are working to determine a motive behind the attack.
The incident comes as the Hindu community in Canada grapples with the growing presence of Khalistani groups as well as increasing attacks and vandalism targeting temples.
In recent incidents, anti-India paintings were done at Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Surrey. There were incidents of vandalism of temples in the Greater Toronto area.
The incidents follow a surge in pro-Khalistan rallies and online rhetoric demanding a referendum for a separate state for Sikhs.
