205 killed in floods in Spain, 50 year record of rainfall broken

Madrid. The death toll from devastating floods in eastern Spain caused by torrential rains has increased to 205. The rescue team is still searching for the missing people. This disaster could become Europe’s worst disaster in the last five decades. Minister Angel Victor Torres said heavy rains lashed Spain’s eastern region of Valencia and the surrounding provinces of Albacete and Cuenca, killing a total of 205 people. Dozens more names can be added to this. Dozens of people are missing. Parts of the Valencia region were hit by a year’s worth of rain in eight hours, the worst flood-related disaster in modern Spain’s history. Meteorologists say that human driven climate change is making weather events more destructive. In the year 2021, about 185 people died due to heavy floods in Germany. Earlier in 1970, 209 people had lost their lives in Romania. In 1967, about 500 people died due to floods in Portugal. Mayor María José Catalla told media that rescue teams had recovered the bodies of eight people, including a local policeman, trapped in a garage on the outskirts of the city of Valencia. A 45-year-old woman was also found dead in her home near La Torre. Thousands of people were seen pushing bags and shopping trolleys from La Torre into downtown Valencia to stock up on essentials like toilet paper and water. He was seen crossing the pedestrian bridge over the Turia river. Opposition leaders are accusing the central government in Madrid of being slow in warning people and sending rescue teams and acting slowly. After which the Interior Ministry said that civil defense measures were the responsibility of regional authorities. Laura Vilascusa, manager of a local supermarket, said people would not have died if they had been warned in time. Maribel Albalat, mayor of the nearby city of Paporata, said people were not warned about the possible danger of flooding. He told that 62 people have died in his city.
