Abuja. Severe flooding in north-eastern Nigeria has killed 30 people and affected millions. Officials said the burst of a major dam in Borno state triggered massive flooding, forcing residents to flee their homes and seek shelter.
Let us tell you that this dam had broken 30 years ago as well. The state government said that due to unusually heavy rains, the dam was filled with sufficient water as per its capacity. Two years ago also, there was a severe flood in Nigeria in which more than 600 people died.
About 15 percent of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, is under water, a state police spokesman said. A spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency said the death toll was 30. “So far, about 1 million people have been affected by the floods,” an aide to the Borno governor said.
