Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Friday ordered an inquiry into allegations of installation of hidden cameras in girl’s washrooms in the SR Gudlavaleru Engineering College hostel in Krishna district.
The Chief Minister urged the students to share any evidence they had regarding the incident with him. Hundreds of students have been protesting against the incident since Thursday midnight.
The college management tried to suppress the matter: State Minister
On the instructions of the Chief Minister, state minister K. Ravindra along with the collector and the superintendent of police of Krishna district visited the college on Friday. The students told Ravindra that the management tried to suppress the issue of hidden cameras found in the washrooms. The students who lodged a complaint in this matter were threatened. The police have registered a case in this matter.
Inquiry going on in the hostel
The police examined the laptops, mobile phones and other electronic gadgets of the suspects in the presence of students and college staff. According to the police, no evidence was found to support the allegations. Meanwhile, the police in Krishna district have formed a special team to investigate the incident. The investigation team has started inquiries at the hostel. State Human Resource Development Minister Nara Lokesh has also ordered an inquiry into the alleged incident.
Police arrested a student
This incident that took place in the engineering college came to light on Friday. The video of the students protesting for justice also got circulated late Thursday night. It is alleged that some videos were recorded through cameras and sold. This incident took place in Gudlavaleru Engineering College in Krishna district.
More than 300 photos and videos leaked: allegations
In connection with this incident, a senior student Vijay Kumar has been arrested from the boys’ hostel. He is a last year B.Tech student. His laptop has been seized and further investigation is underway. More than 300 photos and videos were leaked from the washroom of the girls’ hostel and some girl students had bought these videos from Vijay.
