Bangladesh has lost power after 15 years of Sheikh Hasina and India’s neighbour has got a new interim government under the leadership of Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus.
Even though Hasina hastily left the country on August 5 and took refuge in India, her troubles are showing no signs of decreasing.
Action is still going on against her in Bangladesh. On Sunday, three new cases were registered against Hasina. Thus, a total of 10 cases have been registered. These include eight cases of murder, one of kidnapping and one of genocide.
Three more cases were registered against ousted Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina on Sunday.
The cases include his alleged involvement in ordering an attack on his arch rival Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chief Khaleda Zia in 2015, firing at a rally in Dhaka in 2013 and the killing of a student in Jaipurhat district on August 4.
Total cases registered against Hasina so far
More than 600 people, including 44 policemen, have died so far in the violence that has been going on in Bangladesh for the last one and a half months.
After the movement reached its peak, Sheikh Hasina had to surrender before the students and had to hastily flee to India on 5 August.
Not just the student organisations and the opposition, but even the army was against Hasina. A new interim government has been formed in Bangladesh with the support of the army and now the situation is slowly getting under control.
Talking about the cases registered against Sheikh Hasina, a student named Alif Ahmed Siam was injured after being shot during the violence on August 5. The class IX student died during treatment in the hospital.
In the wake of that, a case of crimes against humanity and genocide was registered against Sheikh Hasina and 8 others. On the same day, another case was registered against 24 people including Hasina for the murder of another student Faizul Islam Rajon in Mirpur.
After this, a murder case was registered against 11 people including Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka’s Sherbangla Nagar police station area. In this case, former PM Sheikh Hasina was accused of murdering an auto rickshaw driver Shahabuddin.
What are the three new cases?
BNP leader Belal Hussain has filed a case against Hasina and 113 others, alleging that they were involved in the attack on BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s convoy in 2015. According to the FIR lodged at Dhaka’s Tejgaon police station, 500 to 700 unidentified attackers were involved in the attack.
Former Prime Minister Hasina is also named in a case filed over the death of 18-year-old college student Najibul Sarkar during a student protest in Joypurhat on August 4. The case was filed in the Joypurhat Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court by the student’s father Majidul Sarkar.
Besides Hasina, former Road Transport Minister and Awami League leader Obaidul Quader and 128 others are accused in the case.
On Sunday, Bangladesh People’s Party president Mohammad Babul Sardar Chakhari filed a case in the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court accusing Hasina and 33 others of being involved in firing on a rally organised by Hefazat-e-Islam, an Islamist group, at Shapla Chattar in 2013. The complaint alleged that several people were killed in the firing.
