Somnath . The district administration demolished illegal religious structures in Gir Somnath district of Gujarat. Nine illegal structures behind the Somnath Temple and Circuit House area were demolished. Police detained 150 people and deployed 1,400 policemen. There were several encroachments by anti-social elements behind Somnath Temple and Circuit House. We have started the demolition drive in collaboration with the local administration. We have deployed 1,400 policemen and detained around 150 people. Cases are being registered against them.
Despite issuing notice, the occupants were not ready to remove the encroachment. Due to this, the administration was left with no option but to carry out the demolition campaign.
