Amidst the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, surprising things have come to light from the Gaza Strip.
The Health Ministry, run by Hamas, says that the situation in Gaza, which is being destroyed by the Israeli attack, is very bad. More than 60 thousand pregnant women here are victims of malnutrition.
The number of pregnant women in Gaza City is very high. More than 160 women are giving birth to children here every day. Women are delivering in extremely difficult conditions amid collapsed health systems.
Gaza’s Health Ministry had informed on International Women’s Day on March 8 that about 60,000 pregnant women in the Gaza Strip are facing malnutrition.
The ministry stressed that women also lack adequate health care. Gaza’s population is 49% female, including a large proportion of those of childbearing age.
Women are facing unsafe and unhealthy conditions after having to leave their homes due to shelling and attacks. About 5,000 women are giving birth to children every month in Gaza.
UN has also expressed concern
Earlier on 19 February, the United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF expressed concern over a significant increase in malnutrition among children, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers in Gaza.
The UN had said in its report that the condition of women and children in the city is extremely pathetic due to the massacre that took place after the Israeli attacks in Gaza.
Gazans are facing severe shortages of food, water, medicine and fuel due to Israel’s attacks and complete siege, as well as a citywide health crisis due to the pandemic and pressure on medical services.
Call to stop genocide
The Gaza Health Ministry in a statement called on the United Nations to immediately stop Israeli attacks and genocide against Palestinian women and their families.
The ministry urged international institutions to support the health, psychological and social needs of Palestinian women, especially in the Gaza Strip.
On International Women’s Day, Gaza’s Health Ministry reported the deaths of 9,000 Palestinian women in the city since October 7, 2023.
