Concern has increased after the detection of new variant JN.1 of Corona virus in the country.
Vigilant instructions regarding this have been issued in different states. The central government is also fully alert to prevent the spread of new variants.
The Center directed the states to send samples of all cases found positive in the Covid-19 test for genome sequencing.
Officials aware of the matter gave this information on Friday. He also said that there has been no increase in the rate of serious illness or hospitalization due to the infections of JN.1 found so far.
A senior central government official told HT on the condition of anonymity, ‘This is part of the steps taken regarding Covid surveillance and efforts related to this are being made across the country.
All RT-PCR positive samples need to be sent to the INSACOG laboratory where their genome sequencing will be done. From this it will be found out which type of variant is spreading.
Instructions have also been issued to state governments to take steps regarding Covid testing. It is very important to do this to prevent corona infection from increasing.
There is no need to panic. At present, whatever measures are being taken regarding this are all about taking precautions.
640 new cases of corona registered on Friday
On Friday, 640 new cases of corona were registered in the country, due to which the number of patients undergoing treatment increased to 2,997, whereas a day earlier this number was 2,669.
According to Union Health Ministry data, the number of Covid-19 cases now stands at 4.50 crore (4,50,07,212). Due to the death of one more patient due to infection in Kerala, the death toll has increased to 5,33,328.
The number of people recovering from this disease has increased to 4,44,70,887. According to the data, the national recovery rate is 98.81 percent, while the death rate is 1.19 percent. So far, 220.67 crore doses have been given in the country under the anti-Covid-19 vaccination campaign.
