General elections have been announced in Pakistan.
For the first time in the country, a Hindu woman named Saveera Prakash has filed nomination from a general seat. She is preparing to contest elections from Buner district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
His father is also a member of Pakistan Peoples Party i.e. PPP. Elections are going to be held in Pakistan on 8 February 2024. Figures released by the Commission show that till Monday, more than 28 thousand nominations had been filed.
Who is Saveera Prakash?
Prakash has filed nomination from PK-25 seat of Buner district. PPP has fielded him. The special thing is that Saveera’s father Om Prakash is also a retired doctor and has been a member of PPP for the last 35 years.
Saveera graduated from Abbottabad International Medical College in the year 2022 and is the general secretary of PPP’s Mahila Morcha in Buner. He has talked about the upliftment of women.
During an interview she said that she wanted to follow her father’s footsteps. He had filed nominations on 23 December itself.
The special thing is that in the recent amendments made by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), it has been said to include 5 percent women candidates on general seats.
Local politician Salim Khan, associated with Qaumi Watan Party, says that Prakash is the first woman from Buner, who is filing nomination for the general elections from a general seat.

At present, the ECP is examining the nomination documents filed by the candidates. This process will continue till December 30.
Claims and objections on nomination documents can be filed till January 3 and a decision will be taken by January 10.
The Commission is going to release the list of candidates on January 11. After this, candidates can withdraw their nomination till January 12.
The special thing is that 361 men and 32 women have filed nominations for provincial assemblies on seats reserved for non-Muslims.
At the same time, 140 men and 10 women have filed nominations for the National Assembly.
