A tragic incident has come to light from Bengaluru Rural district.

A woman died after allegedly eating prasad at a temple, while over 130 people have been hospitalised.

Police officials say that laddus were given as prasad to the devotees in the temple. After eating this, people’s health deteriorated and they had to be admitted to the hospital.

According to a police officer, laddus were given to devotees visiting Anjaneya temple on the occasion of Vaikuntha Ekadashi on Saturday.

The husband of a woman named Siddagangamma had also gone to the temple and brought home laddus, which were later consumed as prasad by his family members.

On Sunday, both his wife and daughter complained of vomiting and dysentery. They were admitted to Silicon City Hospital, where Siddhagangamma died during treatment. The deceased has been identified as Siddagangamma, a resident of Kaveri Nagar.

Police are investigating
As time passed, more and more devotees visiting the temple started deteriorating and were admitted to various hospitals in Bengaluru city. A senior police officer said many people who ate the prasad have been admitted, but they are also looking into other aspects as people who did not eat the prasad also fell ill.

Police said the laddus given to the devotees were a day old but it was not known whether the incident was due to food poisoning.

A health official said they were also investigating whether contaminated water caused large-scale food poisoning.

Meanwhile, Hoskote MLA Sharath Bache Gowda visited the temple and later met the patients and family members of the deceased.
