Lebanese media outlets say senior Hamas official Saleh al-Arouri has been killed in an Israeli drone strike in Beirut.
Hamas has also confirmed Saleh’s death on its official channel. Hamas called the attack a deliberate one.
The Lebanese PM has also condemned the attack and said that Lebanon is being dragged into the war between Israel and Hamas.
At the same time, there is an atmosphere of celebration in Israel on Saleh’s death. Although Israel has not yet taken responsibility for this attack, Netanyahu’s advisor definitely said that whoever did this has carried out a surgical strike on Hamas.
On Tuesday, Hamas said on its official channel that al-Arouri was killed in a “treacherous Zionist attack.” Hamas politburo member Ezzat al-Sharq called it a “cowardly murder.”
Al-Arouri was a senior official in Hamas’s politburo. Within Hamas, Saleh was considered to have a strong hold on military matters.
This is the reason why Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu had also held Saleh responsible for the attack on Israel on October 7. Netanyahu also vowed to kill Saleh. Saleh had previously led Hamas in the occupied West Bank.

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency said at least six people were killed in the blast and that it was carried out by an Israeli drone.
Meanwhile, Hamas vowed that al-Arouri’s killing “will not weaken the continued brave resistance” in Gaza. A fierce war is going on in Gaza between Hamas and the Israeli army.

“This once again proves the enemy’s failure and desperation to achieve any of its offensive objectives in the Gaza Strip,” senior Hamas official Ezzat al-Rishq said in a statement. On the other hand, there was no immediate comment from Israel.
Although Mark Regev, an adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, told MSNBC that Israel did not claim responsibility for the attack, “whoever did it should be clear that this was not an attack on the Lebanese state.” “Whoever did this has carried out a surgical strike against Hamas,” Regev said.
Attempt to drag Lebanon into Israel-Hamas war
Lebanon’s prime minister condemned the killing, saying the attack was aimed at “dragging Lebanon further into the Israel-Hamas war.”
“Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned the explosion that killed and injured several people in the southern part of Beirut,” his office said in a statement.
The statement said the attack was aimed at “drawing Lebanon into a new phase of confrontation with Israel,” coming as Hamas ally Hezbollah has been firing on the IDF in northern Israel.
