External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar gave examples from the epic Ramayana to explain diplomatic situations.
He said that nations can be tested by their neighboring countries. Just like Parashuram had tested Lord Ram.
The External Affairs Minister on Saturday said that just as Lord Ram needed Lakshman, every country needs a strong and brotherly friend.
Jaishankar made this statement during the third P. Parameswaranji Memorial Lecture in Thiruvananthapuram. This program was organized by Bharatiya Vichar Kendram, the main organization of Sangh Parivar.
Citing episodes from the epic, Jaishankar said Lord Ram passed a major test like breaking the bow and in today’s world countries also go through similar tests.
He said, ‘This is exactly what happens to nations when they rise. Let us look at our country. With a strong economy, we passed a test.
We passed another test by conducting nuclear tests and developing nuclear arsenal. It’s like stringing a bow which is a nuclear bow. This could be a technology test.
India should prepare for a bigger role in the world system: Jaishankar
The Foreign Minister said that just as Parashuram had tested Ram, we can also be tested in the same way. So we can be tested in other situations.
Nations can be tested by their neighbors. He said that India should prepare to play a bigger role in today’s world order and it should do this with a sense of historical and civilizational responsibility.
He stressed that tradition has a lot to teach people in the present world. In this era of globalization, looking at it from the angle of history, tradition and culture provides a solid basis for communicating with the world.
