America and Britain have conducted a major airstrike against the fighters of Yemen’s rebel group Houthi. These air strikes have been carried out with the aim of destroying the positions of Houthis.
According to the report, in these attacks the Houthis’ radar systems, drones, ballistic, cruise missile stockpiles and launch sites were targeted.
The exact assessment of the damage caused by these has not been revealed yet. This is the first time such attacks have been carried out by the US-UK against Iran-backed Houthi rebels, because despite repeated attempts, they continued targeting commercial ships on international shipping routes.
A statement regarding the airstrike was issued by US President Joe Biden. It was reported that the US and British forces have taken defensive action in view of the increasing attacks on ships in the Red Sea.
Under this, air strikes have been launched targeting Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen. The statement further said that if needed, he would not hesitate to order military action.
According to the report, the airstrikes were carried out on various cities in Yemen, where the Houthis are believed to be under control. Tomahawk missiles and fighter jets have been used in this airstrike.
US and allied countries had warned Houthi rebels
An armed unmanned maritime drone from Yemen, controlled by Houthi rebels, came within range of US Navy and commercial ships in the Red Sea last Thursday and then exploded.
The incident came as the US and 12 allied countries warned the Houthi rebels to stop attacking ships in the Red Sea.
If this does not happen, be prepared to face military action. This was the first time the Houthi rebels used a humanitarian vessel or USV.
USVs are a key part of the Houthi maritime arsenal and have been used in battles against the Saudi coalition that intervened in Yemen’s war. These are often used as suicide boats.
Houthis attack cargo ships in the Red Sea
Earlier on January 1, the US Army had fired on Houthi rebels after the attack on a cargo ship in the Red Sea, killing many of its fighters.
The White House official said that we are going to take action in self-defense. The crew of the destroyer USS Graveley first shot down two anti-ship ballistic missiles that attacked the Singapore-flagged ship.
The Singaporean ship was attacked in the southern Red Sea. After this, four small boats again attacked the same cargo ship with small arms and the rebels tried to board the ship.
The Houthis had confirmed the killing of 10 of their fighters in the clash. Earlier, the US had also imposed sanctions on a group engaged in money exchange services in Yemen and Turkey, which is accused of helping in providing funds to Houthi rebels. The scope of sanctions also includes three exchange houses of Yemen and Turkey in Sanaa.
