Relations between Maldives and India have not been going well for the last few days.
Relations further deteriorated after Maldivian ministers made derogatory comments on PM Modi and India.
Although the Maldives government tried to rectify the situation by suspending the three ministers, now after returning from China tour, the attitude of Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu has also changed.
He has said that even though we are small, you do not get a license to threaten us.
Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu was addressing the press after returning from a five-day visit to China. During this time he was asked a question, in response to which he said, “We may be small but that does not give you license to threaten us.”
Even though Muizzu has not taken the name of any country, it is believed that he has given this statement regarding India. This statement of Muijju has gone viral on social media.
Recently, PM Modi had visited Lakshadweep. After this, many of his photographs from there were revealed, after which users on social media were appealing to the public to give more importance to Lakshadweep as a tourism destination than Maldives.
Meanwhile, three ministers of Maldives had made derogatory remarks about PM Modi, to which India strongly protested.
Going on the backfoot, the Maldives government hastily suspended the three ministers Malsha Sharif, Maryam Shiuna and Abdulla Mahjoom Majeed. The Maldives government had shrugged off his comments, terming them as personal comments.
Former Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had also condemned the use of hateful language against India.
“India has always been a good friend of Maldives and we should not allow such harsh comments to negatively impact the age-old friendship between our two countries,” Solih said in a post on Twitter.
Not only the government of Maldives, but many opposition leaders there had also demanded serious action on this issue.
It is known that every year a large number of Indian tourists visit Maldives, which also helps Maldives economically.
Muijju also met Jinping during China tour
Amidst tension with India, Maldives President Muizzu had visited China for five days. During this time, he also had an important meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
20 important agreements have also been signed between Maldives and China during this tour. Regarding the visit, Muizzu said that he is honored to make his first state visit to China and become the first foreign head of state to host China this year, which fully reflects the importance that both sides have for the development of bilateral relations. How much importance do they give?
Xi stressed that China respects and supports the Maldives in pursuing a development path that suits its national conditions.
China firmly supports the Maldives in safeguarding its national sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and national dignity, the official Xinhua news agency reported.
