After former Union Minister Milind Deora resigned from the party, hours before the start of its ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’, the Congress on Sunday alleged that the timing of the announcement of resignation has been decided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh claimed that he had spoken to Deora on phone last Friday and he wanted to meet party leader Rahul Gandhi as he was worried about his former Lok Sabha seat (South Mumbai).
Currently, Arvind Sawant of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) is the MP from South Mumbai. ,
Jairam Ramesh alleged, “The timing of the announcement of Milind Deora’s resignation has clearly been decided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Deora messaged me at 8:52 am on Friday and then at 2:47 pm the same day I replied and asked are you planning to leave the party? Then at 2:48 pm he sent a message asking can I talk to you? I told him I would call you and then the same day I spoke to him at 3:40.”
The Congress general secretary claimed, “He told me that he is worried that this seat (South Mumbai) is a Shiv Sena (UBT) seat, he wants to meet Rahul Gandhi and tell him about the seat. He also wanted me to talk to Rahul Gandhi about this.”
Taking a dig at Deora, Jairam Ramesh said, “I fondly remember my long years of association with Murali Deora (Milind’s late father). He had close friends in all political parties, but he was a staunch Congressman, who always stood with the Congress Party in every difficult situation. so be it!”
