The Padmashree awards to be given this year have been announced.

There are many names in this list who are unsung heroes.

This includes Parbati Baruah, Jageshwar Yadav, Chami Murmu, Gurvinder Singh, Satyanarayan Belleri, Dukhu Manjhi, K Chelammal, Sanghatanakeema, Hemchand Manjhi, Yanung Jamoh Lego, Somana, Sarbeshwar Basumatari, Prema Dhanraj, Uday Vishwanath Deshpande, Yazdi Maneksha Italia, Shanti Devi Paswan. And many names like Shivam Paswan, Ratan Kahar, Ashok Kumar Biswas, Balakrishnam Sadanam Puthiya are included. These are those people who, while living on the ground, have created a distinct identity for themselves in the society through their work.

Parbati Barua, India’s first female mahout
The first name in the list is that of Parbati Barua, who is called the elephant fairy. 67-year-old Parbati is from Assam and works for the betterment of animals.

She is the first woman in India to work as an elephant mahout. She has made a place for herself by working in this field dominated by men.

With his special technique he has played an important role in curbing conflict between elephants. In this way he has helped three states.

Parbati had learned this quality from her father and started working as a mahout at the age of just 14. Despite belonging to a well-to-do family, he chose a simple life for himself.

Jageshwar and Chami too
The name of Jageshwar Yadav is also in this list, who is called the brother of Birhor. He is a resident of Jashpur and works for tribal welfare.

He remained engaged in this work despite battling all the economic adversities. Similarly, 52 year old Chami Murmu from Jharkhand is also there. She is said to be an ally of Serakela. Chami is a tribal warrior, who has planted more than 30 lakh trees and has provided employment to more than 30 thousand women through her organization.

Satyanarayan Belleri and Dukhu Majhi
The next name in this list is that of 53 year old Gurvinder Singh from Haryana, who works for the disabled. Satyanarayana Belleri of Kerala is also one of the Padma awardees.

He works on different varieties of rice. He has worked on the conservation of more than 650 species of rice. Similarly, Dukhu Majhi of West Bengal has received the Padma Shri award.

Dukhu Majhi is known as Gaaz Dada. He is a tribal environmentalist from Sindri village of Purulia. Dukhu has planted more than 5000 banyan and mango trees on the barren land.
