It has been announced that 132 well-known personalities of the country will be honored with the Padma Award.
These include former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, actress Vyjayantimala Bali, actor Konidela Chiranjeevi, late Bindeshwar Pathak, founder of Sulabh International, the first woman justice of the Supreme Court, late M. Fathima Beevi and Bombay Samachar owner Hormusji N. Kama is involved.
On the eve of the 75th Republic Day, actor Mithun Chakraborty, Taiwanese company Foxconn Chairman Yang Liu, senior BJP leader Ram Naik, late actor Vijaykant, singer Usha Uthup and philanthropist Kiran Nadar were also announced to be honored with civic awards.
Among the Padma awardees are 34 unsung heroes, including India’s first female elephant mahout Parvati Barua, tribal environmentalist Chami Murmu, social activist Sangthankima, who runs Mizoram’s largest orphanage, and plastic surgeon Prema Dhanraj.

Who are given Padma Award?
Padma Awards are given to people associated with various fields including art, literature, education, sports, medicine, social service, science, engineering, public work, civil service and business.
These are those people who have given extraordinary achievements or services in their respective fields. These awards are divided into three categories. These are- Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
What do those honored with the Padma Award get?
The Padma Award ceremony is held every year at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Those awarded the Padma Award are given a certificate and medal bearing the signature and seal of the President.
These celebrities are also handed over a replica of their medal, which they can wear at any function. It has been clearly stated by the Home Ministry that this award is not a title.
Therefore it cannot be used in front or behind the names of the winners. If this is violated the prize may also be withdrawn.
Let us tell you that Padma Award winners do not get any cash amount, allowance or facility like discount in rail-air travel.
