Suicide is the cause of death of 15-35 people every day in Pakistan. According to the news of Pakistan’s famous newspaper Dawn, citing their report in the year 2020, an organization has conducted a survey regarding deaths due to suicide in Pakistan.
The survey published by Taylor and Francis mentions that in Pakistan, one person dies every hour and 15-35 people die every day due to suicide.
Why are people committing suicide?
Surveyors say that in a country like Pakistan, where it would have been difficult to collect data on sensitive topics like suicide, newspaper data proved effective in this matter.
Let us tell you that Dawn had released a report on suicides in Pakistan in the year 2020, the same report became the basis of Taylor and Francis’ survey.
It has been claimed in the report that people suffering from mental problems take the path of suicide.
People commit suicide in Pakistan due to social barriers, mistreatment of women and immoral acts. However, the report claims that there is a lack of data on suicides at the rural level compared to cities.
Terrorism is also taking lives of Pakistanis
According to the annual report of Pakistan’s think tank Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), in the year 2023, 1524 people died and 1463 people were injured during 789 terrorist attacks and anti-terrorist operations.
Common people and security forces personnel are also included in these figures. According to the report, among those killed were 1000 civilians and other security forces personnel.
Last year’s figure of deaths in terrorist incidents in Pakistan is the highest in six years. Earlier in the year 2018, so many deaths had occurred.
According to the report, terrorist incidents in Pakistan are continuously increasing since the year 2021. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan remain centers of terrorist violence.
These states of Pakistan are most affected by terrorism
Of the total terrorist attacks in Pakistan, 84 percent have taken place in these two states, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. And 90 percent of the people who died were from these two states.
Whereas only eight percent terrorist incidents have occurred in Punjab and Sindh provinces. According to the report, there has been a 56 percent increase in terrorist incidents in Pakistan in 2023 and while 980 people were killed in terrorist incidents in Pakistan in 2022, this figure will reach 1524 in 2023.
Although terrorist incidents have reduced in Punjab and Sindh, but according to the data of these states alone, it has increased by 96 percent. Whereas in Sindh, 26 percent more people have died.
