The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party at the Center has received donations of about Rs 720 crore in the financial year 2022-23.
The party has made this disclosure in the document submitted to the Election Commission.
According to the report of the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), the donations received by the BJP are more than five times the total donations received by the other four national parties (Congress, AAP, CPM and NPP).
ADR has said in its report that a total of 12,167 donors have donated a total of Rs 850.438 crore to all national parties during the financial year 2022-23.
These donations are worth more than Rs 20,000. According to the rules of the Election Commission, it is mandatory to give details of donations of more than Rs 20,000 to the Commission. Therefore, these figures are of donations above this limit line.
The country’s sixth national party, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), has said that it has not received a single donation above Rs 20,000 during the financial year 2022-23. BSP has been making similar announcements continuously for the last 17 years.
The report said that during 2022-23, BJP has received a total donation of Rs 719.858 crore from a total of 7,945 donors, while Congress has received donations from only 894 donors.
Congress has received a total donation of only Rs 79.924 crore, which is just more than 10 percent of the total donation received by BJP. NPP is the only political party in the North-East to have the status of a national party.
The ADR also revealed that national parties have received a total of Rs 276.202 crore in donations from Delhi, while Rs 160.509 crore have been received from Gujarat and Rs 96.273 crore from Maharashtra.
There has been an increase of Rs 91.701 crore in donations to national parties during the financial year 2022-23 as compared to the previous year 2021-22. This is 12.09 percent more than the last financial year.
According to ADR, BJP had received Rs 614.626 crore during the financial year 2021-22, which increased to Rs 719.858 crore during the financial year 2022-23.
This is 17.12 percent more than last year. However, there was a 41.49 percent decline in donations to the party during FY 2020-21 compared to FY 2019-20.
There has been a decline of 16.27 percent in Congress’s donations in 2022-23 as compared to the financial year 2021-22. It was Rs 95.459 crore in the last financial year, which has fallen to Rs 79.924 crore in 2022-23.
However, there has been a jump of 28.09 percent in donations received by Congress in 2021-22 as compared to 2020-21. Compared to the last financial year, CPM has received 39.56 percent less donations and AAP has received 2.99 percent less donations.
