US President Joe Biden has blamed Putin for the death of jailed Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
Biden said he was not surprised by Navalny’s death, but angry. He said that Navalny stood up bravely against corruption, violence and other evil deeds being done by the Putin government.
The White House is busy gathering more information related to Navalny’s death.
It is noteworthy that 47-year-old Alexei Navalny died in jail. Navalny was known for his widespread protests against government corruption and the Kremlin, the Russian ruling establishment.
Navalny experienced health problems and fainted after taking a walk on Friday, the Federal Prison Service said in a statement.
It said an ambulance arrived to help Navalny, but he died. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said President Vladimir Putin had been informed of Navalny’s death and that the investigation was being conducted in line with prison service standard procedures.
At the same time, Navalny’s wife said that if the death of Alexei Navalny, announced by the Russian prison service on Friday, is confirmed, then President Vladimir Putin and his associates will not be spared.
Yulia Navalnya said at the Munich security conference that she was skeptical about the news of her husband’s death because it came from Russian government sources.
He said that we cannot trust Putin and Putin’s government. They always lie. At the same time, Navalny’s spokeswoman Kira Yarmysh said on ‘X’ that her team does not yet have any confirmed information about his death, and his lawyers are going to the city where he was kept.
Navalny was serving a 19-year sentence on extremism charges. He was transferred in December from a prison in the Vladimir region of central Russia to one of Russia’s highest-security prisons in the city of Kharp in the remote Arctic region.
He had been behind bars in January 2021 after he returned to Moscow after receiving treatment in Germany following a nerve agent poisoning attack.

Navalny was born in Butin, about 40 kilometers from Moscow. He received a law degree from People’s Friendship University in 1998 and a fellowship at Yale in 2010.
