An Indian student, who went missing in Britain last month, has been found dead in the River Thames here.
Police said that the student named Meetkumar Patel (23) had come to Britain for higher studies in September. Where he was reported missing since November 17.
The Metropolitan Police found his body in the River Thames near the Canary Wharf area of east London on 21 November.
“This case is not being treated as suspicious,” police said. Parth Patel, a relative of Meetkumar, has started an online campaign ‘Go Fund Me’ to raise funds to help his family.
An appeal has been made to raise funds which states, “Meetkumar Patel was a 23-year-old man who came to the UK for higher studies on 19 September 2023.”
Mitkumar was from a farmer family
It said, “He belonged to a farmer family and lived in the village. He was missing since 17 November 2023. Now on November 21, the police found his body. This is sad for all of us. So, we decided to raise funds to help his family and also send his body to India.”
Funds are being raised
The appeal states that the funds will be safely transferred to Meetkumar’s family in India. The student was to travel to Sheffield on November 20 to pursue a degree at Sheffield Hallam University and start a part-time job at Amazon, the ‘Evening Standard’ newspaper reported.
According to reports, he had gone for a morning walk and when he did not return to his home in London, his relatives informed the police about his missing.
