Goa Police arrested Deepak Sharma, accused of assaulting female footballers.

Deepak Sharma is a member of the executive committee of All India Football Federation. Two female footballers of the Himachal Pradesh based club had made serious allegations against Deepak Sharma.

According to these players, Deepak Sharma had assaulted them during the Indian Women’s League 2. This attack took place in a hotel room in Goa.

A complaint was lodged with AIFF on Friday. According to the information, the attack on women footballers took place on Thursday.

Leaving a message, DSP said that after receiving the complaint, Deepak Sharma was called for questioning during the day. Mapusa police had arrested him on various charges.

This includes causing hurt, use of force against the woman etc. Inspector Sheetkant Naik of Mapusa police station said that he will remain in custody at night and will be produced in the court on Sunday.

Earlier, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) had asked its executive committee member Deepak Sharma, who allegedly scuffled with two women footballers in Goa, to stay away from sports-related activities until the investigation into the matter is completed.

Two footballers from Khad FC of Himachal Pradesh were participating in the Indian Women’s Football League Second Division. He alleged that club owner Sharma entered his room on the night of March 28 and assaulted him.

He had also filed a complaint with the Competition Committee of the AIFF and the Goa Football Association. Apart from this, a complaint was also lodged at Mapusa police station.

According to sources, in the complaint both of them said that Sharma was drunk most of the time and they were in danger of their lives from him. Sports Minister Anurag Thakur had asked AIFF to take immediate and strict action against the official.

Sharma is the general secretary of the Himachal Pradesh Football Association, a club owner and a member of the executive committee of the AIFF.

The inquiry committee comprises executive committee member Pinky Bompal Magar, AIFF security and child protection officer Rita Jayarath and Vijay Bali.
