The Enforcement Directorate investigating the Mahadev online betting app case has got a big success.
It is reported that on Tuesday itself, one of the two main accused, Ravi Uppal, has been detained in Dubai. There are possibilities that he may be brought to India soon. Uppal is also the co-founder of the app.
Red notice was issued by Interpol after a request from ED. After this, Dubai Police has detained 43 year old Uppal. ED is investigating Uppal in a money laundering case related to alleged betting. Apart from this, investigation is being done in this matter by Chhattisgarh Police and Mumbai Police.
The investigating agency had filed a charge sheet against Uppal and another promoter in the money laundering case. After this, ED had requested Interpol to issue a red notice. The agency had told the court in the charge sheet that Uppal had taken a Vanuatu passport without renouncing his Indian citizenship. Vanuatu is a continental country.
Another arrest will be made soon
It is being said that Saurabh Chandrakar, another promoter and mastermind involved in illegal betting, may also be arrested soon. After this he can be brought to India. Currently, he is in UAE. Apart from Uppal, Red Corner Notices were also issued against Chandrakar in October. The special thing is that ED had also obtained non-bailable warrant against both of them.
Action against Uppal is important
Uppal’s arrest is being considered very important in the Mahadev App case. This issue had become very heated during the recently held Chhattisgarh Assembly elections. One of the accused had alleged that the promoters had given a bribe of Rs 500 crore to Congress leaders. On November 2 itself, ED had arrested courier Aseem Das with cash worth Rs 5 crore. The agency claimed that the courier admitted that the cash was sent on behalf of Chandrakar and Uppal.
