The Supreme Court upheld the President’s power to abrogate Article 370.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed it. In an interview given to Dainik Jagran, he said that no power in the universe can now reverse the decision of August 2019.
PM Modi also warned people against politicizing the issue. In a special interview, he said, ‘No power in the universe can bring back Article 370, hence engage in positive work.’
PM Modi had described the SC’s decision to uphold the government’s decision to abrogate Article 370 as historic.

Instructions to take steps to conduct assembly elections
Let us tell you that the SC had said in its decision that steps should be taken to conduct assembly elections by September 30 next year. The apex court also directed that the statehood of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir be restored as soon as possible.
Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, while delivering the judgment for himself and Justices BR Gavai and Surya Kant, said that Article 370 of the Constitution was a temporary provision and the President has the power to abrogate it.
The court also upheld the validity of the August 5, 2019 decision to separate the Union Territory of Ladakh from Jammu and Kashmir.
On this day, the Central Government abrogated Article 370 and divided the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
