A major crisis for the Canadian government, ally NDP withdraws support; Will Justin Trudeau lose his position?

The Canadian government is in danger and Justin Trudeau could be ousted from power at any time.

His party has fallen into minority after the support of the coalition partner withdrew. Jagmeet Singh, the head of the left-leaning party NDP in Canada, ended his alliance with Trudeau’s Liberal Party.

Both parties were in alliance since 2022. Trudeau has described Jagmeet Singh as his true partner on several occasions. Trudeau is shocked by Singh’s sudden withdrawal of support.

This move of the NDP can cause Trudeau’s government to fall anytime. However, Trudeau has expressed confidence that he will not let his government fall under any circumstances.

Let us tell you that recently released surveys show that if elections were held in Canada now, Trudeau’s Liberal Party would lose badly.

On Wednesday, the NDP, the party that helped keep Justin Trudeau’s minority Liberal government in power, withdrew its support.

Now Trudeau will have to try and form new alliances to run his government smoothly. But whether Trudeau’s government will survive or fall due to this move of the NDP depends on the support of other opposition MPs for Trudeau to win a confidence vote in the lower house of Parliament. According to Canadian rules, elections are to be held by the end of October 2025.

Canadian government in minority, what will Trudeau do now?

“There will be an election in 2025, I hope not until next fall, because in the meantime, we’re going to work for Canadians. I really hope that the NDP will focus on how we can work for Canadians rather than focusing on politics, as we have done in years past,” Trudeau told reporters.

Trudeau will lose if elections are held now

It is worth noting that 52-year-old Trudeau first took over as PM in November 2015. But in the last two years, apart from the opposition, he has also had to face the indifference of the public.

Politicians and the public blame the Trudeau government for the recent inflation and housing crisis. Recent polls show that if an election were held now, Trudeau’s Liberal Party would lose badly.

In 2022, there was an agreement between the Liberal Party and Jagmeet Singh’s NDP to stay together till 2025, but seeing the results of the surveys and people’s anger towards the Trudeau government, the NDP withdrew its support.
