A major accident occurred in America’s Baltimore city on Tuesday. According to reports, a bridge completely collapsed after being hit by a container ship and its debris fell into the Patapsco River.
According to the Baltimore City Fire Department, 20 people and several vehicles fell into the river after the bridge collapsed. Several casualties have been reported.
At present, rescue and recovery operations are being conducted on a large scale.
It is being told that this accident happened at around 01:30 in the night, when a big ship collided with a pillar of Francis Scott Key Bridge.
Videos regarding this incident are going viral on social media, in which it can be seen that the bridge is completely submerged in water.
It was told by the fire department that due to the collision with the bridge, a lot of diesel from the ship has spilled into the river water.
Divers and rescue teams have reached the spot to locate the drowned persons. The latest update says that 20 people may have fallen into the river.
Let us tell you that this Francis Scott Bridge is 3 kilometers long and is part of the I-95 interstate. It serves as the main north-south highway on the East Coast of the United States, passing through Miami.
Kevin Cartwright, communications director for the Baltimore Fire Department, said this is an emergency. He said that our focus right now is on rescuing people and taking them out of the water.
He said that it appears that some stuff is hanging from the bridge.
Cartwright said emergency personnel were searching for missing people who were believed to be in the river. According to him, it is too early to tell how many people have been affected.
Mayor Brandon M. Scott and Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski Jr. posted on social media that emergency personnel were responding and rescue efforts were underway.
