A train accident occurred in Tamil Nadu on Friday night.

Bihar bound Bagmati Express collided with a goods train, following which six coaches of the train derailed. The collision was so strong that some coaches of the train caught fire.

It is feared that some passengers may get injured in the accident. According to the information, the train was going from Mysore to Darbhanga in Bihar via Perambur.

Meanwhile, the train collided with a goods train standing at Kavarappettai railway station near Tiruvallur. As soon as information about the accident was received, railway officials reached the accident site.

Rescue operation has also started after the accident. Ambulances and NDRF teams have also been sent to the accident site.

Giving more information on the train accident, Southern Railway said, “Six coaches of train number 12578 (MYS-DBG) going from Mysore to Darbhanga derailed after colliding with a goods train at around 20.30 pm.

There is no news of any casualty. Some people have been injured. Medical relief vans and rescue teams have left from Chennai Central.”

Relief and rescue operations are ongoing

Railway Board Executive Director Information and Publicity (ED/IP) Dilip Kumar said, “Information about the accident of 12578 Bagmati Express has been received. Till now, the relief and rescue team from the Railways has reached the accident site and the work of evacuating passengers from all the coaches is going on. More than 90 percent of the passengers have been evacuated. So far we have not received any information about any casualties or serious injuries. GM Sadan Railway and DRM Sadan Chennai Division have left for the accident site. Necessary arrangements are being made by the Railways from Chennai station to take the remaining passengers to their destination.

Earlier, a train accident had occurred in Katihar, Bihar on Thursday night. A bogie of the goods train going from New Jalpaiguri to Katihar had derailed between Sudhani-Barasoi station. During this period, train operations on one line came to a halt for hours.

Stalin instructed officials to monitor

After the accident, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin directed his officials to go to the site and monitor the rescue operations. He also asked Chief Secretary N Muruganandam and other senior officials to reach the spot to assist in relief and rescue operations. Stalin also directed the Tiruvallur district administration and Southern Railway officials to expedite rescue and relief operations, besides ensuring all medical and basic facilities to the affected passengers and their transportation. He also asked officials to ensure adequate medical facilities at the scene and in hospitals to treat the injured.
