After all, why has Iran’s nuclear program always been in controversy?

1950s: Iran’s nuclear program began in the 1950s, when nuclear technology was given to Iran under America’s Ottoman Peace Program. Subsequently, in the 1970s, during the reign of Shah Reza Pahlavi, Iran received international support to develop nuclear energy. Following the fall of the Shah in the 1979 Islamic Revolution and the subsequent Islamic Revolution, Iran’s relations with Western countries deteriorated. Subsequently, mistrust between Iran and the international community regarding the nuclear program grew.
In 2002, Iran was accused of developing nuclear weapons after secret nuclear facilities were discovered in Natanz and Arak.

JCPOA: A Historic Agreement (2015)
In 2015, JCPOA was signed between Iran and P5+1 countries (US, UK, France, China, Russia, Germany).
Iran agreed to limit uranium enrichment and accept IAEN inspections. In exchange, economic sanctions on Iran were lifted.

2018: America’s withdrawal from the agreement
The then US President Donald Trump decided to withdraw from JCPOA, calling it a bad deal.
After this America imposed harsh economic sanctions on Iran. Iran gradually stopped abiding by the terms of the JCPOA and re-intensified its nuclear program. But Iran has recently indicated that it is ready to reinstate the JCPOA.
