America, who often comments on India’s internal affairs, was criticized by Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has given a blunt answer.
He told Americans that they should ‘not feel bad’ when India reacts to his comments on its internal affairs.
Jaishankar, in response to a question at the American think tank ‘Carnegie Endowment for International Peace’, said that if you look at the level of two countries, two governments, we think it is important that there is mutual respect for democracy.
It cannot be that one democracy has the right to comment on another and this is part of promoting democracy at the global level.
But when others do so it becomes foreign interference. In response to a question, he said, ‘Foreign interference is foreign interference, no matter who does it and where it happens.
So, this is a difficult area and my personal view, which I have shared with many people, is that you have every right to comment, but I have every right to comment on your comment. So don’t feel bad when I do this.
‘America’s leaders comment on India’s affairs’
The Foreign Minister said, ‘America and India are among the leading countries in the world which have democratic governance systems.
Here in America, many issues are debated in our democracy, but many times American leaders make comments about India’s democracy.
He said that the world has become very globalized and as a result the politics of any country does not necessarily remain within that country’s national boundaries. Jaishankar, who has been openly vocal, said, ‘Now America definitely makes a special effort to ensure that this does not happen. This is part of how you have conducted your foreign policy for many years.
‘Now the world is no longer the same as before, everything is now global’
He said that now things are no longer the same as before. The world is no longer unipolar. Jaishankar said, ‘Now in a globalized era where global agendas are also globalized, there are parties who want to shape the politics not only of their country or their region but to have an impact on the entire world.
Social media, economic forces, and financial flows give you the opportunity to do this. How do you shape the discourse? That’s your business.
