The issue of arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the alleged liquor scam case of Delhi was recently raised prominently by America.
On which the Foreign Ministry summoned the American diplomat and scolded him for 40 minutes. However, America has still not maintained silence in this matter.
Issuing a new statement, raised the issue of freezing Congress’s account. Said that we are keeping an eye on Kejriwal’s issue but are also aware of the Congress account freezing issue.
In view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in India, we are keeping an equal eye on all these issues.
Arvind Kejriwal has been arrested by ED in the Delhi liquor scam case. On Wednesday, Delhi High Court did not grant relief from arrest to Kejriwal.
On the other hand, first Germany and then America intervened and made statements on this issue. America had recently said that it is keeping an eye on the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister and senior opposition leader Arvind Kejriwal just before the Lok Sabha elections in India.
America further said that it hopes that like a common man, Kejriwal will get the fair trial on the charges that he deserves.
India expressed objection
India has viewed America’s raising of Kejriwal’s issue as internal interference. On Wednesday, Indian Foreign Ministry officials had summoned American diplomat Gloria Barbena.
The meeting lasted more than 30 minutes. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs later said in a statement, “We strongly object to the comments of the US State Department spokesperson regarding certain legal proceedings in India.”
Now America raised the issue of Congress
After facing embarrassment over raising the issue of Kejriwal’s arrest, America has commented on confiscation of Congress’s bank accounts.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said, “We will continue to closely monitor further actions, including the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. We are also aware of the frozen bank account issue of Congress.”
Let us tell you that the Congress Party has alleged that the tax authorities have frozen some of their bank accounts at a time when Lok Sabha elections are to be held in a few days.
Congress alleges that this action is like an act of revenge regarding an years old incident. Congress says that it has become difficult for it to contest elections due to freezing of its bank accounts.
He is not able to use the funds for elections. Congress’s]allegation is that in response to the Rs 14 lakh case, the tax authorities have frozen crores of his rupees in the bank.
What did America say now?
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a new statement on Wednesday that freezing Congress’s bank accounts will make it challenging for it to campaign effectively in the upcoming elections.
And we expect fair, transparent and legal processes for each such issue. Whatever we have said publicly before, I am still saying the same. We don’t think anyone should have any objection to this.
