On Wednesday, US President Joe Biden said that he would not support any attack by Israel on targets related to Iran’s nuclear program.
It is believed that in response to the missile attack by Iran, Israel may target its nuclear sites.
However, when Biden was asked on Wednesday whether he would support such retaliatory action after Iran fired about 180 missiles at Israel on Tuesday, he said, “The answer is ‘no’.”
Biden made this comment at a time when he and other G-7 leaders discussed on the phone on Wednesday the coordination of new sanctions against Iran.
The White House said in a statement that G-7 leaders ‘unequivocally condemned Iran’s attack on Israel’ and Biden reiterated the US’s ‘full solidarity and support for Israel and its people’ .
Meanwhile, the US administration has indicated that it has urged Israel to exercise restraint in responding to Tuesday’s missile attack.
The US and its allies are trying to prevent the spread of the regional conflict, which began with an October 7 attack on Israel by Gaza’s Hamas militants.
Meanwhile, eight Israeli soldiers were killed on Wednesday in Israel’s ground fighting against Hezbollah militants in Lebanon. There is a possibility of further increase in tension in the region as Israel has committed to respond to the ballistic missile attack launched by Iran a day earlier.
The Israeli army said that seven soldiers were killed in two separate attacks, but it did not give any detailed information in this regard. These attacks were one of the deadliest attacks against the Israeli army in the last few months.
