Factories located in America have suddenly increased the production of cannon balls.
This is creating a new challenge for Russia. This step has been taken amidst global tension where the Ukraine war and Russia’s relations with NATO countries are continuously deteriorating.
A Pennsylvania plant that makes artillery shells for use in Ukraine’s fight against Russia has boosted production by 50% in response to rising demand, the AP reports.
Government officials reported the increased production this week, citing a US$400 million modernization of the historic factory.
The Scranton Army Ammunition Plant cuts 2,000-pound (907-kg) steel rods into 155 mm howitzer shells, which are then shipped to Iowa where they are filled with explosives and fitted with fuses.
From there many shells are sent to fight in Ukraine where they are in high demand.
A top official at the Scranton plant said it, along with two other ammunition plants in nearby Wilkes-Barre, recently increased its production from 24,000 shells a month to 36,000 shells a month.
He said three new production lines are being developed that will allow the Scranton plant to further increase production of these critical weapons.
