A delegation of farmers from Punjab met top police officials from Ambala in Haryana on Monday and briefed them about their plan, ahead of their proposed march towards Delhi on December 6.
The delegation was led by farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher. After meeting Superintendent of Police (Ambala) S S Bhoriya, Pandher said that the delegation informed the police administration about the route of the farmers’ march.
He said the delegation assured the police that the march would be peaceful and traffic would not be blocked on the route.
Pandher said, ‘The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere. We gave detailed information about our program, which we have already announced to the media. We said that we will go in groups and go peacefully. Traffic will not be blocked. We will stay on the streets at night.
Asked whether Haryana authorities have given permission to march towards Delhi, the farmer leader said, ‘They will hold a meeting and will inform us after that.’
Farmers under the banner of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have been camping at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana since February 13, when security forces stopped their march towards Delhi.
During a program in Yamunanagar, Haryana Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana said, ‘If some farmers want to march peacefully then there can be no objection in it.
But the way he agitated in Punjab, it spoiled the economy there. We will not let anything like this happen in Haryana.” If someone disturbs the law and order, he cannot even go four kilometers, leave alone Delhi.
‘Government is buying crops on MSP’
Sarwan Pandher had said on December 1 that a group of farmers would march towards Delhi on Thursday. He also hit out at the Center for not holding talks with the protesting farmers to resolve their issues, including legal guarantee on minimum support price (MSP) for crops.
Speaking to reporters in Kurukshetra, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said that Congress spread the lie that the Center wants to end the MSP system for agricultural produce. He said that in fact the government is not only continuously purchasing crops at MSP, but is also increasing it.
‘Farmers’ demands should be fulfilled’
CM Saini said that 24 crops are being purchased at MSP in Haryana. He said farmers should protest in Punjab and Congress-ruled states, where MSP is not provided.
Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda said that the government should talk to the farmers on their demands and find a solution.
Hooda said, ‘Everyone has the right to protest peacefully. The main demand of the farmers is that the Center should give legal guarantee on MSP.
In Haryana the government says that they are giving MSP for 24 crops. There are not even 24 crops in Haryana. I asked them to tell me the names of those 24 crops on which they are giving MSP.
Know what are the demands of farmers
Farmer farm loan waiver apart from legal guarantee on MSP, pension for farmers and farm laborers, no hike in electricity rates, withdrawal of police cases, justice for victims of 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence, restoration of Land Acquisition Act 2013 and They are demanding compensation to the families of farmers killed during the previous agitation in 2020-21.
Pandher said, ‘If we are allowed to go to Ramlila Maidan or Jantar Mantar in Delhi or if we are stopped at the Singhu border, we will see where we get space to sit and plan our protest accordingly. Will transfer from here (Shambhu Border).
Pandher also told about his plan to march from Shambhu towards the national capital. He had said on December 1 that the first batch would be led by Satnam Singh Pannu, Surinder Singh Chautala, Surjit Singh Phul and Baljinder Singh.
He had said that the group would move towards Delhi peacefully with essential goods. Farmers will move from 9 am to 5 pm and spend nights on the road.
