Bagmati Express and goods train collide in Tiruvallur, 19 injured, relief work underway

There is news of a major rail accident from Tiruvallur in Tamil Nadu, where the Bagmati Superfast Express going from Mysore to Darbhanga collided with a standing train. Due to the accident, 12 coaches of the train derailed. There are reports of 19 people injured in the accident.

Tiruvallur police told the agency that a passenger train going from Mysore to Perambur via Darbhanga collided with a goods train parked at Kavarappettai railway station near Tiruvallur. Railway officials have reached the accident site.

Udhayanidhi Stalin meets injured passengers

Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin met the passengers injured in the train accident who are being treated at the Accident and Emergency Department of the state-owned Stanley Medical College Hospital in Chennai. At the same time, Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information and Publicity (ED/IP) of Railway Board, said that we received information about the train accident. After that, relief work was started rapidly. All passengers have been evacuated from the entire train. There are no reports of any passenger casualties. No passenger suffered serious injuries. Special arrangements are being made by the Railways to take all the passengers to their destination.

Passengers have been evacuated: Officials

According to ANI, Dilip Kumar, Executive Director, Information and Publicity, Railway Board, says, ‘Information has been received about the accident of 12578 Bagmati Express. Till now the relief and rescue team from the Railways has reached the accident site and the work of evacuating passengers from all the coaches is going on. More than 90% of the passengers have been evacuated.

“We have not yet received any information about any casualties or serious injuries,” the officer said. Both the relief team and the medical team are present at the accident site. GM Sadan Railway and DRM Sadan Chennai Division have left for the accident site. Necessary arrangements are being made by the Railways from Chennai station to take the remaining passengers to their destination.

News of many people being injured

Quoting the Railway Police, it was said that the express train hit a standing train in Kavarpettai, Tamil Nadu. Police have also expressed fear that many people may be injured in the accident. Police told the agency that rescue teams and ambulances have rushed to the spot. More information related to the incident is currently awaited.
