Before Diwali, traffic police showed strictness in Delhi, issued 47000 challans in last 24 days

Amidst the increasing air pollution levels in the country’s capital Delhi, Delhi Traffic Police has taken major action. A total fine of Rs 47 crore has been issued for violations related to pollution certificates from October 1 to 24. During this period, the traffic police has issued more than 47,000 challans to drivers for not presenting valid pollution control (PUC) certificates. Motorists have to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 for this violation. Along with this, the process of these challans is done through the court.

A Delhi Police official said that this month Delhi Traffic Police had launched a special campaign. Under which, between October 1 and 24, 47,363 challans have been issued for pollution control (PUC) violations. He said that the increasing number of vehicles on the roads is rapidly increasing pollution in the city. The official said that the aim of this initiative is to improve compliance with environmental rules, because the problem of air quality is continuously increasing in the capital Delhi.

PTI quoted the official as saying, “This month, special drives were conducted by traffic police personnel at several places including ITO Chowk, Peeragarhi, Ashram Chowk, Anand Vihar and Mehrauli and till October 24, about 47,343 motorists were stopped due to pollution or expired vehicles.” Caught without PUC certificates. Let us tell you that the campaign to implement pollution control measures is in full swing. In such a situation, officials are conducting surprise checks of vehicles.

At the same time, till October 24 this year, a total of 2,50,761 challans have been issued for violation of pollution control (PUC) rules, whereas during the same period, 2,32,885 challans were issued last year and 1,64,638 challans were issued in 2022. The increase in violations is believed to highlight the ongoing problem of vehicular pollution in the city of Delhi, which is known for its high air pollution.
