Just hours before the closing ceremony, a man was seen climbing the historic Eiffel Tower in Paris.

When the Paris Police got information about this, they immediately evacuated the area around the tower.

According to news agency AP, people present nearby said that a person was seen trying to climb the 330 meter high historic Eiffel Tower in the afternoon.

It was not known where he began his climb from, but he was seen on the other side of the Eiffel Tower, just above where the Olympic rings are placed.

After this, the people present there informed the police. The police removed the people from near the Eiffel Tower at around three in the afternoon.

People who had come to see the tower and were on the second floor of the tower were locked inside and were allowed to come out after about thirty minutes.

The Eiffel Tower was the focal point of the Olympics’ opening ceremony, while the closing ceremony takes place in the northern suburb of Saint-Denis at 9pm French time.

The incident occurred after the Olympic Games competition had ended and the attention of security forces from Paris and outside was focused on the closing ceremony.

Around 30 thousand police officers have been deployed around Paris during the closing ceremony.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said around 3,000 police officers would be deployed around the Stade de France and 20,000 police soldiers and other security personnel would be deployed in the Paris and Saint-Denis area until late Sunday to ensure security on the final day.
