RBI’s new update on Rs 2000 note has come.
The Reserve Bank of India i.e. RBI has said that about 97.69 percent of the Rs 2,000 bank notes have returned to the banking system.
There are still 2000 notes worth Rs 8,202 crore with the public. Let us tell you that when the announcement of withdrawal of Rs 2,000 bank notes was made, the total value of Rs 2,000 bank notes in circulation at the close of business on May 19, 2023 was Rs 3.56 lakh crore. In March it has come down to Rs 8,202 crore.
On May 19, 2023, RBI had announced the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes from circulation. RBI has said, “Now 97.69 percent of the Rs 2000 notes in circulation have returned till May 19, 2023.” Bank notes of Rs 2,000 will remain legal tender.
The Rs 2000 notes were initially asked to be exchanged or deposited in bank accounts by September 30, 2023. Later the deadline was extended to October 7, 2023. After October 7, 2023, the facility to deposit and exchange notes in bank branches was stopped.
The option to exchange currency or deposit it in their bank accounts has been provided at 19 RBI offices from October 8, 2023.
RBI has said that Rs 2,000 bank notes can be deposited or exchanged at 19 RBI offices across the country. People can send Rs 2,000 bank notes through India Post from any post office to any RBI issuing office.

The 19 RBI offices where notes are deposited or exchanged are in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna and Thiruvananthapuram.
