Big upset in Sri Lanka’s presidential election – NNSP

Colombo. In Sri Lanka’s general elections, outgoing President Ranil Wickremesinghe has suffered a major upset at the hands of leftist leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake. Dissanayake has won a landslide victory and will be the next President of Sri Lanka. Voting was held in Sri Lanka on 21 September to elect the 10th President of the country and the counting of votes began after 5 pm on Saturday. About 75 percent of the 1 crore 70 lakh voters exercised their franchise in the presidential election. In the last presidential election held in November 2019, 83 percent voting was recorded.
According to the data of the Election Commission of Sri Lanka, leftist leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake has won the presidential election with 52 percent votes. Outgoing President Ranil Wickremesinghe came in third place with 16 percent votes. Sajish Premadasa is in second place with 22 percent votes. Premadasa will once again be seen in the role of the main opposition leader. Let us tell you that this is the first election in Sri Lanka after the economic crisis of 2022.
Dissanayake contested the election as a candidate of the National People’s Power Coalition, which also includes his Marxist-leaning Janata Vimukthi Peremuna party. Let us tell you that after the economic crisis of 2022, there was a massive public uprising against the Gotabaya government in Sri Lanka. The protesters entered the Presidential Palace in Colombo, after which Gotabaya Rajapaksa had to flee the country. Ranil Wickremesinghe took over the reins of the country in this difficult time.
