Bill related to Wakf Board presented in Lok Sabha; SP and Congress oppose it

New Delhi . There is a possibility of a huge uproar during the monsoon session of Parliament today as well. The government introduced a bill in the Lok Sabha on Thursday to curb the unlimited powers given to the Waqf Board and for better management and transparency. At the same time, the opposition is also trying to put pressure on the government regarding the Vinesh case.

Bill related to Wakf Board introduced

Law Minister Kiren Rijiju introduced a bill related to Waqf Board in the Lok Sabha. Aircraft MRO industry could be worth $4 billion in seven years: Minister Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu said in the Lok Sabha on Thursday that the government has taken several steps to set up aircraft MRO services in India and the value of the total business could grow from US$2 billion to US$4 billion in seven years.

RJD will also oppose this

On the central government introducing a bill to amend the Wakf Act, 1995, RJD MP Misa Bharti said, “I think all the parties of the India alliance will oppose it and RJD will also oppose it. There are many other important issues of the government on which no one is talking. Those issues should have been brought up earlier.”

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said, “Today the Wakf Act Amendment Bill is being introduced in the House. Various parties have opposed it. We will present in the House the basis on which the opposition has been made.”

A joint parliamentary committee should be formed: Sule

On the Centre introducing a bill to amend the Wakf Act, 1995, NCP-SCP MP Supriya Sule said, “We will oppose it. The bill should be sent to a standing committee for more recommendations or a joint parliamentary committee should be formed.”

‘The post of Chairman is being challenged: Dhankhar

Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said amid the uproar of the opposition, ‘The post of the chairman is being challenged. I am being insulted. The leader of the opposition made a comment against me. Now that this Bill, which has appropriate amendments to address the shortcomings, is being introduced, we are confident that the disadvantaged, deserving and poor sections of the Muslim community will be empowered. This Bill will bring transparency, accountability and also inclusiveness in the management of Waqf properties from now on.’

BJP national spokesperson CR Kesavan said, “This is indeed a much needed reform. It is a very laudable initiative by PM Narendra Modi’s government, who has decided to introduce these amendments in response to various demands and representations made by affected members of the Muslim community. The Waqf Act was enacted by an Act of Parliament in 1954, but the objective could not be achieved, which is why so many representations have been received from the affected community.”

The government wants to adopt a strategy of diversion: Manikam Tagore

On the government’s decision to introduce the Waqf Act Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha, Congress MP Manikam Tagore said, ‘Parliament is running peacefully. Many important things are being discussed in Parliament, including the budget and everything else. The government wants to adopt a strategy of diversion. The government wants that the budget should not be discussed. We will ask to send these amendments to the standing committee.’

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said, “The way this bill is being brought, I would ask if it has been discussed within their alliance (NDA). Have JDU and TDP seen this Waqf Bill and given their consent? If they have not, it is only important that whenever such a bill comes, all stakeholders, MPs should be heard and amendments should be made if necessary.”
