In this sequence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new terminal building at Tiruchirappalli International Airport in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Modi will visit Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep on January 2 and 3. During this time he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of many development projects.

The Prime Minister’s Office gave this information on Sunday. A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said Modi will reach Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu on January 2 and will be the chief guest at the 38th convocation of Bharathidasan University.

At a public event in Tiruchirappalli, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for several development projects worth over Rs 19,850 crore related to aviation, rail, road, oil and gas, shipping and higher education sectors.

After this Modi will reach Agatti in Lakshadweep, where he will address a public program. On January 3, the Prime Minister will reach Kavaratti in Lakshadweep, where he will lay the foundation stone of several development projects related to sectors like telecom, drinking water, solar energy and health in Lakshadweep.

He will inaugurate the new terminal building at Tiruchirappalli International Airport at an event in Tiruchirappalli.

Developed at a cost of over Rs 1,100 crore, the two-level new international terminal building has the capacity to serve more than 44 lakh passengers annually and around 3,500 passengers during peak hours, the statement said.

Modi will dedicate to the nation several rail projects, including doubling of the 160 km rail line section from Madurai to Tuticorin and three projects of rail line electrification.

The statement said the rail projects will help improve rail capacity to carry freight and passengers and contribute to economic growth and employment generation in Tamil Nadu.

Modi will also dedicate to the nation five road projects, which will provide safe and fast travel facilities to the people of the region and industrial and commercial cities like Trichy, Srirangam, Chidambaram, Rameshwaram, Dhanushkodi, Uthirakosmangai, Devipattinam, Irrawaddy, Madurai, the statement said. Will improve the connectivity of commercial centres.

He will also lay the foundation stone for road development projects, including construction of a 31-km four-lane road from Mugaiyur to Marakkanam on National Highway 332A, the statement said. According to the statement, this road will connect ports on the east coast of Tamil Nadu, enhance road connectivity to the World Heritage Site Mamallapuram and provide better connectivity to the Kalpakkam Nuclear Power Plant.

The Prime Minister will dedicate to the nation the General Cargo Berth-II (Automobile Export/Import Terminal-II and Capital Dredging Stage-V) of Kamarajar Port.

According to the statement, during the program he will also lay the foundation stone of important petroleum and natural gas projects worth more than Rs 9,000 crore.

According to this, the projects in petroleum and natural gas sector will be a step towards meeting the industrial, domestic and commercial requirements of energy in the region.

According to the statement, along with this, Prime Minister Modi will also dedicate to the nation the ‘Demonstration Fast Reactor Fuel Reprocessing Plant’ at the Indira Gandhi Atomic Research Center in Kalpakkam.

Developed at a cost of Rs 400 crore, the plant is equipped with a unique design, the only one of its kind in the world and is capable of reprocessing both carbide and oxide fuel exhaust from the reactor.

It has been completely designed by Indian scientists. According to the statement, among other projects, Modi will inaugurate ‘Amethyst’, a 500-bed hostel of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Tiruchirappalli.

During his visit to Lakshadweep, Modi will lay the foundation stone of development projects worth over Rs 1,150 crore. According to the statement, in a transformative step, the Prime Minister pledged to address the challenge of slow internet speeds in Lakshadweep by launching the Kochi-Lakshadweep Islands Submarine Optical Fiber Connection (KLI-SOFC) project and from the Red Fort in August 2020. An announcement was made on this in the Independence Day speech.

The project has now been completed and will be inaugurated by Modi, the statement said. The statement said that this will increase the internet speed by more than 100 times (from 1.7 Gbps to 200 Gbps). For the first time after independence, Lakshadweep will be connected through submarine optic fiber cable.

The dedicated submarine OFC Lakshadweep will ensure a paradigm shift in the communication infrastructure in the islands, enabling faster and more reliable internet services, telemedicine, e-governance, educational initiatives, digital banking, digital currency usage, digital literacy etc.

According to the statement, Modi will also dedicate to the nation the Lok Temperature Thermal Desalination Plant at Kadmat, which will produce 1.5 lakh liters of clean drinking water every day. He will also dedicate to the nation Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) to all households in Agatti and Minicoy islands.

According to the statement, other projects that will be dedicated to the nation include the solar power plant at Kavaratti, which is Lakshadweep’s first battery supported solar power project. According to the statement, this will help in reducing dependence on diesel based power generation plants.
