Bharatiya Janata Party has once again accused Congress of insulting Dalit President Mallikarjun Kharge. The party has also shared a video, in which Kharge is seen peeping from the gate outside the room.
BJP claims that the video is from the time of nomination of Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. BJP alleges that Kharge was treated like this because he did not belong to a ‘family’.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the video. He wrote, ‘Today, such behavior by the so-called Trimurti in Wayanad towards a senior MP and Dalit leader like Shri Mallikarjun Kharge ji is extremely disappointing.
Be it the president of AICC or PCC, does this family take pride in humiliating those whom it considers a mere rubber stamp.
Former Union Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar wrote, ‘When first family Priyanka Vadra ji was filing nomination as Congress candidate from Wayanad, where were you Kharge Saheb? They were made to stand outside because they are not family.
Self-respect and dignity were sacrificed at the altar of arrogance and authority of the Sonia family. Just imagine, if they do this to senior Dalit leaders and party president, how they will behave with the people of Wayanad.
Congress’s answer
Here, Congress has accused BJP of insulting the Dalit leader. Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinet said in a video message, ‘The reality is that at the time of nomination, only five people, including the candidate, could sit in the DM’s room. When Kharge ji, Sonia ji and Rahul ji reached there, some people were already sitting. As soon as he left the room, Kharge ji, Sonia ji and Rahul ji came inside and Kharge ji sat in the first row. Sonia ji sat back even after being the President of CPP.
He further said, ‘We have full respect for our president, but BJP repeatedly insults Joe Kharge ji. She probably does this because he comes from the Dalit community. He comes from a community which the BJP hates. Who have been exploited by people like them for years. We respect our president….’
