BPL card holders will be reviewed in Himachal – NNSP

Shimla . There will be a review of BPL card holders in Himachal Pradesh. The prosperous families that have been in the below poverty line list for years will be identified and removed from the list. This issue will be considered in the Gram Sabha meeting of Panchayats to be held in November. During this review, there will be discussion on exclusion of such families which are financially prosperous or have government jobs, vehicles, permanent houses, but are still availing BPL benefits. In Himachal Pradesh, economically prosperous people have remained in the BPL list for many years. Such list will be discussed in all the Panchayats in the Gram Sabha meetings so that the real needy can get its benefits. Gram Sabha meetings could not be held in April this year due to the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct during the Panchayat by-elections. Due to this, the review process of BPL list was delayed, which will now be completed during the meetings to be held in November.

What is the term and condition for BPL card?
Some standards have been set by the government to remain in the BPL list. In these, the monthly income of the family should not exceed Rs 2500. Non-irrigated land should not exceed 2 hectares and irrigated land should not exceed 1 hectare. There should not be a permanent and big house, the family should not have a four-wheeler. No member of the family should be in government or non-government job. Points for luxury items like TV also come under this.

There is no BPL family in 38 panchayats
There are no BPL families in 38 Panchayats of Himachal, and this list is not required there. The government has fixed Himachal’s quota of 2,82,370 families for BPL families, out of which currently 2.60 lakh families are in the BPL list. The objective of this decision is to deliver benefits to the right needy and remove affluent families from the list. Rajesh Sharma, Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department, said that every year in the Gram Sabha meetings, eligible and ineligible families are reviewed, so that the benefits can reach the needy.
