British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has approved the construction of the world’s second 6th generation stealth aircraft.
With Starmer’s approval, the project of this dangerous and modern aircraft being developed with mutual cooperation by UK, Italy and Japan has got a boost.
After the change of government in Britain, there were clouds of doubt over this plan, but last week itself, Starmer made his intentions clear by giving approval to this.
British PM Starmer and his cabinet approved the Global Combat Aircraft Program or GCAP, and the project is likely to be formally announced in the next few weeks, the Financial Times reports.
The aim of this project is to counter the growing threat from Russia and China. The GCAP project will be accomplished by the merger of two different projects.
This will include Italy’s Tempest Project and Japan’s FX Project. Britain has already pledged £2 billion to Italy.
Italy, Japan and UK had signed a treaty for this project only last year.
But due to the change of government in Britain and the policy of the Labor Party, there was doubt on the UK’s participation in this treaty. But Starmer has put an end to all the apprehensions by giving it the green signal.
Nothing has been said yet about what the final cost of this billion dollar project will be. But the target to develop this stealth fighter jet has been set by 2035.
British companies BAE Systems and Rolls-Royce, Italy’s Leonardo Aerospace and Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries are participating in this project.
According to the treaty, the headquarters of this joint project will be in the UK. The UK Defense Ministry said that Britain is a respected member of this project.
Together with our partners Japan and Italy, we are focused on completing this work by 2035.
If this project is completed on time, then this supersonic stealth aircraft will become the second such aircraft in the world after America’s B-21 Raider bomber.
