New Delhi . A British submarine sunk in World War II has finally been found 770 feet below sea level after 81 years. Three spies and 64 soldiers drowned with this submarine. The submarine that was going to drop these spies to Kalamos Island fell victim to landmines laid by Germany.
People searching for old ships, warships and submarines under the sea have discovered the British submarine HMS Trooper, which mysteriously disappeared during the Second World War in 1943, at a depth of 770 feet in the Aegean Sea near Kalamos Island, Greece.
HMS Trooper, known as N91, set out on a secret mission in October 1943. The objective was to transport three Greek resistance agents to the island of Kalamos. At that time the submarine was instructed to patrol in the Aegean Sea. But they did not know that the German army had laid landmines in the sea.
On October 17, 1943, this submarine along with 64 soldiers mysteriously disappeared. The team of Greek underwater expert Kostas Thokterides has discovered it. It was found in the Icarian Sea, north of the Aegean Islands.
Costas and his team examined documents from the Second World War. Then found out what was the last location of the trooper. Whose information is in the documents. After this the investigation started. His team found this submarine on 3 October 2024. First searched the submarine with sonar. Made a map of the lower part of the sea.
After this, Costas sent the remotely operated vehicle Super Ashley into the depths of the ocean. Then it was revealed that the trooper was 770 feet below the sea.
Investigation revealed that due to a massive explosion the submarine broke into three large pieces. This explosion was caused by landmines laid by Germany. The investigation also revealed that the submarine hit the mine when it was on the surface. That means upwards. Because its command hatch was open.
