Russia-Ukraine War. Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed that China, India and Brazil could serve as mediators in possible peace talks regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
He indicated that previously established but not implemented agreements from the Istanbul talks could provide a basis for these discussions.
The statement comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced his upcoming visit to the United States to present a “Victory Plan” to President Joe Biden, stressing the need for a strong negotiating position for Ukraine.
Ukrainian forces are actively operating in Russia’s Kursk region, while Moscow continues to make advances in eastern Ukraine, which it has controlled since February 2022. The two countries have intensified their drone warfare, focusing on critical infrastructure targets within each other’s territories.
In response to Ukraine’s actions in Kursk, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov declared on 19 August that there was no prospect of negotiations, as Ukraine currently claimed control of more than 1,200 square kilometres in the region.
