Chief Minister remembered the revolutionary heroes of Bhumkal movement

Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai today unveiled the statue of Bhumkal movement hero Veer Debridhur ji and an inscription based on his biography in the premises of the revolutionary Debridhur Horticulture College and Research Center located at Dharampura in the district headquarters Jagdalpur.

On this occasion, he remembered the contribution of revolutionary Debridhur of Bhumkal movement and paid tribute to him.

He said that in the Bhumkal rebellion of Bastar, tribal leader Veer Gundadhur along with many other heroes like revolutionary Debridhur have made the supreme sacrifice. The contribution of the tribal heroes of Bastar is unforgettable and incomparable. Chief Minister Sai said that Bastar is the land of revolutionaries.

The tribal leaders here strongly fought the oppressive forces with their bravery and courage. Many heroes of Bastar like Veer Gendsingh, Hidma Manjhi, Nagul Dorla, Veer Jhaada Sirha sacrificed everything to protect their soil.

On this occasion, MLA Chitrakot Vinayak Goyal, former MP Dinesh Kashyap, former MLA Santosh Bafna, Baiduram Kashyap, Subhau Kashyap along with Bastar Commissioner Shyam Dhavde, IG Sundarraj P., Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Horticulture and Forestry University Dr. R. S. Kuril, Collector Vijay Dayaram K. were also present.

It is noteworthy that Debridhur, a close associate of Gundadhur, the great leader of Bastar’s great Bhumkal rebellion of 1910, is known as a revolutionary and a martyr.

Born in village Elengnar of Bastar, Debridhur was a tribal youth of Dhurva tribe. His real name was Borgadhur, but because he did all the work including using weapons like bow, arrow, sword, axe, etc. with his left hand, he was called Debridhur. In Bastar region, Debri means left.

Debridhur, along with his brave fellow revolutionary heroes, did the important work of making people aware and organizing them through meetings in every village and preparing them for the struggle to free Bastar from the exploitation, malpractice, oppression and tyranny of the British. He led the fight step by step with Gundadhur.

The Bhumkal rebellion started going in favor of the British due to treachery. Debridhur was arrested. Probably on March 29, 1910, he was hanged in the tamarind tree of Golbazar in Jagdalpur. At that time his age was only 22 years.

Bastar will never be able to forget the priceless sacrifice of this brave great warrior of Bhumkal.

Every year on 10 February, the memorial day of Bhumkal, the tribal society remembers the martyrdom of all the heroes of the movement including Veer Gundadhur and Debridhur and pays emotional tribute to them.
