Chief Prosecutor adamant on bringing Sheikh Hasina from India – NNSP

Dhaka. Former Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina has been in India for the past one month. Meanwhile, Bangladesh is making its own noise for Hasina’s return. There is an interim government led by Mohammad Yunus, but it seems that someone else is sitting in the driving seat in the neighboring country. We are not making such a claim, but looking at the kind of things happening there, it seems so. The new Chief Prosecutor of Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Mohammad Tajul Islam is taking a different line in the country. He says that he will apply to the ICT for Hasina’s arrest, so that she can be brought from India.
Mohammad Yunus has so far refrained from saying anything directly against India. On the lines of earlier, he has described India as a good friend of Bangladesh. On the other hand, Mohammad Tauhid Hussain, the foreign affairs advisor in his government, had also said in the past that every effort would be made to bring Hasina back. He had said that there is an agreement and legal procedures with India. It would not be better to speculate on this. Evidence against the accused (Hasina) will have to be collected from the country and investigated, which is a challenging and big task. It is believed that at least 1,000 people died during the student movement in Bangladesh between 15 July and 5 August. Sheikh Hasina is considered responsible for all these deaths, which is being said to be investigated. There is an extradition treaty between India and Bangladesh. On this basis, the Chief Prosecutor of Bangladesh is putting pressure on India to hand over Sheikh Hasina back to Bangladesh.
Let us tell you that Sheikh Hasina fled to India on August 5, 2024 after the student movement in Bangladesh became violent. She has been here since then. Tajul Islam said that Bangladesh will file an application before the ICT to issue an arrest warrant against Sheikh Hasina. According to reports, during a press conference in Dhaka, Tajul Islam said, when the International Crimes Tribunal resumes its work, we will file an application to issue an arrest warrant against all the absconding accused including Sheikh Hasina.
